Glycorex Transplantation (GTAB B): Broadens Strategy, Initiating Development of Universal Off-the-Shelf Blood Products for Civilian and Military Use

October 29, 2026

Glycorex Transplantation AB (publ) today announces a strategic expansion of its business. Through its subsidiary, Glycorex Universal Blood Products (UBP), the company aims to develop and supply standardized, universal blood products for civilian healthcare, emergency preparedness and military medical applications.

Modern blood supply chains face significant logistical challenges, including the limited availability of universal AB plasma. Recent studies from NHS Blood and Transplant in the UK demonstrate strong hospital interest in universal blood components to improve patient safety, simplify logistics and reduce waste.

Building on its established and CE-marked Glycosorb technology, Glycorex is taking the next step from supplying blood group antibody removal technology towards developing scalable production and supply of ready-to-use universal plasma products with consistently low anti-A/B antibody titers. This could significantly simplify blood supply logistics, particularly in prehospital emergency care and military medicine.

"By broadening our strategy, we are taking a natural and decisive step to apply our established adsorption technology to one of healthcare's most critical logistical challenges. With over 25 years of clinical experience in selective blood group antibody removal for ABO-incompatible transplantation, combined with recent results from our collaborations with civil and military institutions in transfusion medicine, we have a strong foundation for developing universal blood products. Our ambition is to build a new commercial platform that addresses important needs in civilian healthcare and military preparedness, while creating significant long-term growth opportunities for Glycorex," says Carl-Magnus Schultz, CEO.

The initiative will initially focus on process development, scientific and clinical validation, and regulatory requirements in collaboration with leading Nordic experts in transfusion medicine, with the objective of establishing a commercially scalable platform for universal blood products.
